1.)Non-fiction: The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad by Fareed Zakaria
2.)Fiction: Necessary Lies by Kerry Bakken (forthcoming short story collection Spring 2006 from BkMk Press)
3.)Poetry: Interrogation Palace: New and Selected Poems, 1982-2004 by David Wojahn
Ok, so one of these is a plug for a former advisor, but the short stories are good (some of them have already been published elsewhere). Suburban Nation was a good read, so any other suggestions of your own?
Thanks for the suggestions. Here are mine:
1.) How Cities Work: Suburbs, Sprawl, and the Roads Not Taken by Alex Marshall
A good follow up to Suburban Nation. Has a special chapter on Jackson Heights written specifically for Sara.
2.) Revolution in the Valley: The Insanely Great Story of How the Mac Was Made by Andy Hertzfeld
I’m not sure if anyone else will be interested in this. But I recommend it.
3.) The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature by Matt Ridley
Similar subject matter to Desmond Morris books, but less trashy.
4.) Beatles Anthology
Fascinating, extremely well put together.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
